One of my fun creations. The story with this one makes me happy (in a roundabout way).
A friend in one of my local mom’s groups posted one day. She has a sting/bite/something that she had originally thought was a paper cut. But the pain kept increasing, and it was swelling more and more. Aka, not good. I mixed up something with what I had on hand – activated charcoal, various clays, and my BF&C oil. Delivered it to her husband’s work, and she started using it that day. The story has a happy ending (thank goodness, mama needs her thumb!), but the photos below aren’t super exciting if you’re a little squeamish.
Here is what the friend’s thumb looked like when we were trying to figure out what it was. The general consensus was that it looked like a brown recluse bite, and we definitely do have brown recluse spiders here. The swelling and pain wasn’t getting better. And it may have been a different photo, but to me, it looked like it was on it’s way to being necrotic. Not good.
This was within a few days. She messaged me that first night or the following day, asking if it was normal for the pain to go away about 30 minutes after applying the blend. Well, pain does tend to dissipate with the application of hydrated clay, so it wasn’t out of the realm of possibilities. Turns out for her, yes indeed, the salve took away the pain of the wound when she had the salve on. You can also see that the swelling started going down as well, yay!
A week or two later. You can still see the puncture wound in the middle there. The swelling has gone down, it’s a normal thumb again! The infection also stopped spreading, and you can see new skin working on growing there.
Three weeks later. Almost completely healed up. I was a happy camper, as was she. Some pink from the fresh skin, but I can’t see any long lasting scarring or anything, can you? This, this is why I adore herbal remedies. When you get the right ones for what you need, some really great things can happen. Oh, and my friend also didn’t need to go on a very long round of antibiotics, the likely course of action had she gone into urgent care rather than try my salve*. Which if you’re anything like me, antibiotics wreak havoc on my insides with some lasting effects (not necessarily good ones, at least not for me).
* My disclaimer. Whenever I recommend a remedy, if it’s urgent, I tell friends to get thee to a doctor. But things like this or a non-emergent fever, I’ll put a time clock on it. I told this friend if it wasn’t feeling better within a day or two, get to the doctor asap. In my own household, putting a deadline on those things, and having a course of action, tends to take care of whatever.
Not only do I sell this fantastic salve on it’s own, but in kits as well. It can appear in custom kits, but I have it in a specific Hiker’s Gift Set. Great to have on hand because who knows what you’re going to come across while hiking or up in the mountains. Perfect sizing to fit in pockets or in a small pouch of your backpack, without weighing you down.
